What’s the meaning behind the SPC Group logo?

Today’s interviewee, who will help us to satisfy our curiosity towards the SPC Group, is Assistant Manager Sim Ji-yong of the Personnel Development Team at SPC Group. During our interview at the SPC Group Head Office located in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, she gave us clear answer to the various questions sent in by our readers to date.
Q. What does “SPC” stand for in “SPG Group”?
The company’s name has dual meanings. First, it’s an abbreviation combining S from Samlip and Shany, P from Paris Croissant, and C from Other Companies in the group. It’s also short for “Superb company with Passionate and Creative people.”

Q. What does the SPC Group logo symbolize?
The SPC Group’s logo is comprised of two colors, sky blue and yellow, each representing the blue sky and golden sun that brings prosperity to the land. The shape of the logo visually represents a vessel containing our principles of heartfelt sincerity and hopeful coexistence. It’s a multi-layered expression of the shared joy and happy smile of our management and employees, partner companies, and customers.

Q. What kinds of brands does SPC Group operate?
Under SPC Group, Paris Croissant operates over ten brands including Paris Baguette, Pascucci, and Jamba Juice. SPC Samlip also operates around ten brands including Samlip, Pig In The Garden, and Bizeun. Meanwhile, BR Korea operates Baskin Robbins and Dunkin’. All in all, SPC Group owns around 30 brands in total, while the number of stores under its umbrella total 6,500 stores across Korea.
SPC Group operates 430 overseas stores in seven countries
Q. I’d like to know more about the current status of SPC Group’s overseas market penetration.
We first entered into an overseas market after opening a Paris Baguette store in Shanghai, China in September 2004. Since then, we have continued our successful global business activities, establishing local branches in seven countries consisting of the United States, France, China, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia. At present, we’re operating around 430 overseas stores, including around 300 directly-managed stores and franchised stores in China and around 100 in the United States. Furthermore, in 2019, we obtained business rights for Shake Shack in Singapore and have since been operating eight stores in key commercial areas in the country. This year, we continued our gradual expansion of our global business capacity by obtaining business license for Shake Shack in Malaysia.

Q. Does SPC Group only operate food-related companies?
We’re also involved in areas other than food. First of all, we operate SPL in the food ingredients sector and SPC PACK, which is a specialist packing materials company. SPL is Asia’s largest producer of frozen dough, boasting cutting-edge equipment and food safety systems. By manufacturing and supplying various frozen doughs at a consistent quality, it is contributing to maintaining a set standard of product quality at any store across the nation.
SPC PACK is a company specializing in flexible packing materials, which manufactures the packing paper for various food products and functional films. In particular, by using its independently-developed eco-friendly materials, it became the first in the Korean food packing industry to obtain green technology and green product certifications.
Secta9ine leading the digital transformation of SPC Group in the IT services sector
We also operate Secta9ine in the IT services sector. Secta9ine is contributing to maximizing customer convenience by developing mobile commerce services such as Happy Points, Happy Con, and Happy Market, in addition to providing various services including Happy Pay, Happy Crew, and Happy Butler.

Q. Do you have any tips for those who would like to work at SPC Group some day?

As we operate in the food industry, it’s crucial for us to have a close understanding of the field.
