SPC Paris Baguette announced that it has recruited 20 young talents for the internship at its U.S subsidiary through the 2023 Overseas Recruitment Linkage Program jointly operated with Woosong College on February 21, 2023.
Paris Baguette signed an MOU with Woosong College to provide an occupational training program to students of ‘U.S Paris Baguette Bakery Class’ which Woosong College is operating as part of its Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation (LINC) 3.0 project sponsored by the Ministry of Education, and since 2018, it has been running a program that offers 15 to 20 students an opportunity to get a job at Paris Baguette America every year.
To date, a total of 100 people have participated in the program over the six years. Since 2022, the program has been expanded so that students who have completed the internship can get a full-time job at its U.S. subsidiary, and as a result, eight students are currently working as full-time employees.
The number of Paris Baguette’s franchises in the US recently broke the 100th mark. As it aims to open 60 new stores and sign contracts with more than 160 stores this year, together with its upcoming entry into the Canadian market, the company plans to continuously increase the recruitment size of young Korean talents in the Americas in line with its business growth through industry-university cooperation.
Darren Tipton, CEO of the Americas Division of Paris Baguette, said, “With the rapid growth of the Americas business, stable recruitment of competent workers has become crucial. In this situation, our partnership program with the Korean college is of great help, and we plan to more than double the size of regular recruitment this year.”
Under the Paris Baguette Overseas Recruitment Linkage Program, students from the Baking and Confectionery Department of Woosong College may choose to enroll in the ‘U.S. Paris Baguette Bakery Class’ from their sophomore year and accumulate knowledge and skills required to work at Paris Baguette stores in the US for a year, and for the last month of the program, Paris Baguette provides training tailored to each person.
In particular, Paris Baguette provides students with locally-customized education programs such as linguistic education, global cross-cultural education, and business manner education, along with confectionery and baking education to ensure their stable settlement in an unfamiliar environment in the United States. The students selected for the U.S. Paris Baguette internship program are also awarded scholarships.
Those who have been trained as global talents through this process work as bakers at a local Paris Baguette store in the United States for one year, and upon the completion of the internship, they get the opportunity to be hired as full-time employees at the U.S. subsidiary.
Cho Min-ji (23), who is working at Paris Baguette’s Brooklyn Heights branch in New York after participating in the 2022 recruitment linkage program and being hired as a full-time employee, said, “As a bakery major, I have always dreamed of getting a job overseas, and I am happy to be able to realize my dream while doing the work I love in the United States.”
An official from SPC said, “We can provide opportunities for global employment to talented youth in Korea, while stably securing excellent workers required to respond to the growth of the company’s overseas business.” He added, “With the high appraisal and satisfaction of the local stores for Korean young talents, we will continue to expand future recruitment, taking the initiative in creating jobs across the globe.”
