SPC Pack Signs Eco-friendly Packaging MOU with SK Global Chemical

SEOUL, KOREA – On March 31, SPC Group’s packaging subsidiary SPC Pack announced the agreement for eco-friendly packaging material development with SK Global Chemical.

This agreement marks the first of its kind made between a petrochemical company and a packaging manufacturer to develop packaging materials to enhance ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) credentials.

Through the agreement, SPC Pack and SK Global Chemical will develop packaging materials using eco-friendly plastics by playing to their strengths. SK Global Chemical has secured technological power for eco-friendly materials while SPC Pack is the main producer of food packaging materials for Paris Baguette and SPC Samlip.

Not only does the eco-friendly packaging materials focus on recycling, they also ensure the safety of consumers. To this end, this eco-friendly packaging will be made using only plastics for convenient recycling, such as Post Consumer Resin (PCR), and a variety of other biodegradable packaging materials.

“As part of our efforts for ESG management, we decided to promote eco-friendly packaging development with SK Global Chemical,” said an SPC Pack spokesperson.

Having obtained Green Technology and Green Product certifications in December 2018, SPC Pack was able to apply the scheme to all printing materials in the following year and obtained Green Company certification in May 2020. Green Company is the highest-level certification and SPC Pack, as a leader in the food packaging industry, was the first of its kind to obtain this recognition in Korea. Green Company certification is awarded by the government to companies of which 20% of its total sales are from products developed with Green Technology.
